Dear Family,
Just a note to let you know I’m ok and still “sweatin it out” in Germany.  The news of the 3rd being occupation Army, almost floored us.  We were so low – a snake would look like an amateur.  The news of this – even though we’re in the 3rd, doesn’t necessary affect us.  We could be transferred to another Army or – just sent away.  We are simply sitting on pins and needles waiting for any kind of real poop.  The last was – “get comfortable” you may be here for 2 yrs.  In just 6 days it will be Peg’s birthday, I sure wish I had been able to get something for her.  Here in Germany there is nothing for sale, and even if there was we couldn’t buy it ‘cause we can’t fraternize.  Anyway – Happy Birthday and I hope next year finds us all together again, and in good shape.  Haven’t heard from Don – he’s worse than I am.  Jane is still Jane and all is rosy.  My love to all, I’ll keep you posted as best I can.
                                                                Love
                                                                         Tom.

On June 20, 1945, the 244th Field Artillery Battalion was placed in Category IV to be sent to La Harve, France for further duty, prior to returning to the United States.  Some received orders to train for action in Japan, I being one of them, but the orders changed and I went to London England to guard the Airport.  Later we were sent to South Hampton, England to wait our turn to be sent home.  It was here that by brother Jack found me.  He was in the Navy, and had been in Germany as well.  He had been looking for me after the war, and found me in England.  We had not seen each other since July 1942, and we enjoyed three days together before I left for home.

Dear Family,
Had a real nice letter from you last night.  You mentioned you were sending some color film.  I sure hope I don’t goof off and spoil it – I know how hard it is to get the stuff.
This afternoon I’m going out to take some more pictures.  I have three rolls now and I hope to have a local shop fix it up for me.  This next week should give me some new scenery to shoot.
Things are hopping around here.  The Bn is folding up for this war.  All are shipping out all
officers’ men under 85 pts. and getting in a like number of officers and men with over 85 pts.  Do you realize what this means?  Home!!  I’m well over 85 so I have nothing to really worry about.  I have no idea when we’ll leave  Europe.  It could be one month or six months.  I will keep you posted, never fear.
Our group, the 410th is having a big parade on Weds.  All of us who have awards coming will receive them then. There are five Bns. and Gp. HQ. the Corps Arty Off. Gen. – will make the
presentation.  There will be a couple of hundred of us.  It will be our last parade here.
Looks as if Wink and I are about at the parting of the ways. One thing, he may be home before I am, but I’ll be home longer – he will get 80 days leave – then go to SW Pacific.  No one has been transferred yet, but it will happen soon.  We, too, will leave here for a new job till our “ship”  comes in.
It’s time for supper. My love to all of you at home, Your
                                                                             Son.
I’m letting my hair grow long again!!

Dear Folks,
Your boxes haven’t come yet but I’ll thank you in advance.  Also Mrs. Marshall for the Cigs. They are getting rather scarce over here.  The weather is nice and warm.   Our quarters are fine and the food is good too.  One Bronze Star was for Heroism and the other for Meritorious Service.  Parade is tomorrow and the General will handout the medals and citations. I’ll have some pictures in a day or so, I hope!!  I’ll mail the medals and citations in a couple of days.
Not all is well on the Southern front. I’ll let you know more when I know what‘s up.  Feeling kinda low – Love to all
